What is a welding robot?
Welding robot is an industrial robot engaged in welding (including cutting and spraying). It mainly includes robot and welding equipment. The robot is composed of a robot body and a control cabinet (hardware and software); Welding equipment, such as arc welding and spot welding, is composed of welding power supply (including its control system), wire feeder (arc welding), welding gun (clamp), etc. The intelligent robot shall also be equipped with a sensing system, such as a laser or camera sensor and its control device. In this article, two different welding robots will be introduced, namely spot welding robot and arc welding robot.
1、Characteristics of spot welding robot
Since it adopts the integrated welding clamp, the transformer of the spot welding robot must be as small as possible, and the welding transformer is installed behind the welding clamp. 50Hz power frequency AC can be adopted for small capacity transformer, and frequency conversion technology is adopted for large capacity transformer. 50Hz power frequency AC is changed to 600-700 Hz AC to reduce the volume of transformer. After the voltage changes, it can be directly welded with 600-700hz AC or further rectified by DC welding. Welding parameters are adjusted by timer. At present, the new timer has been controlled by a microcomputer. Since the robot control cabinet can directly control the timer, no matching interface is required. The welding tongs of the spot welding robot are driven by electric servo welding tongs. The opening and closing of the welding tongs are driven by the servo motor and fed back by the code disk. The opening of the welding tongs can be arbitrarily selected and preset according to the actual needs, and the clamping force between the electrodes can be steplessly adjusted.

(1) The welding cycle of each welding point can be greatly shortened, because the opening of the welding point holder is precisely controlled by the robot. When the robot moves between the points, the welding point holder can start to close; For a little welding, the robot can move on the other side when the welding point holder is opened, which means that the robot can move without waiting for the robot to be in place, the electrode holder to be closed or the electrode holder to be fully opened.
(2) The opening of welding tongs can be adjusted according to the work piece conditions. As long as there is no collision or interference, the opening can be reduced as much as possible, and the opening and closing time of the welding tongs can be saved.
(3) When the electrode holder is closed and pressurized, not only the pressure can be adjusted, but also the two electrodes are slightly closed when the electrode holder is closed, which can reduce impact deformation and noise.
2. Characteristics of Arc welding robot
Arc welding robots mostly adopt gas shielded welding methods (MAG, MIG, TIG), and usually use thyristor, inverter, waveform control, pulse or non pulse welding power supply to install on the robot for arc welding. Since the robot control cabinet adopts digital control and the welding power supply is mostly analog control, it is necessary to add an interface between the welding power supply and the control cabinet.
In recent years, foreign robot manufacturers have their own special supporting welding equipment, and corresponding interface boards have been inserted in these welding equipment, so there is no additional interface box in the arc welding robot system. It should be pointed out that the arc time occupies a large proportion in the working cycle of the arc welding robot. Therefore, when selecting the welding power source, the capacity of the power source should be determined according to the 100% duration rate. The wire feeding mechanism can be installed on the upper arm of the robot or placed on the robot. The hose between the welding gun and the wire feeder is short, which is conducive to maintaining the stability of wire feeding, while the hose is the main body of the latter. When the robot welding gun makes the hose at a certain position in the bending state, it will seriously affect the wire feeding quality. Therefore, the problem of ensuring the stability of wire feeding should be considered when installing the wire feeder.
